How to change, what Internet Explorer searches at.

Open the Registry Editor by going to the "Start" menu, choosing run and typing "regedit" and the OK button.
Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER".

Next find "Software".
"Microsoft" is the next item down the tree, you should look after.
In "Internet Explorer" you'll find the item "SearchUrl".

The "provider" value holds the information, on what searchengine is searched. This is probably empty.
As you can see, i entered "gogl" there, which makes my IE search at Google on invalid entered sites.

Here is a list of possible values:

  alta - Altavista (http://www.altavista.com)
  aols - AOL Search (http://search.aol.com)
  askj - Ask Jeeves (http://www.ask.com)
  exci - Excite (http://srch.excite.com)
  gogl - Google (http://www.google.com)
  hotb - HotBot (http://hotbot.lycos.com)
  lyco - Lycos (http://search.lycos.com)
  msn - MSN (http://search.msn.com)
  yaho - Yahoo (http://search.yahoo.com)

If you know other working values, i would be happy to get a mail at martin@list-petersen.dk
